Revolution Soon

Revolution soon come,
Two-twos now.
Everybody wears it
At a discount price.

Everybody asks for change,
But they ain't even paid,
I say keep it;
Manners don't cost a thing
Unless you're paid per word.

So excuse me, my French,
Bad taste, too soon, let it cool.
Just let it simmer, turn it down,
Bad taste, too soon. Let it cool.

Some can't look at you and not drool,
United by their hands in each other's pockets
They sing jolly good fellows
Away from the sorrows
Of confused yesterdays, uncertain tomorrows.

Don't know who to follow? Then lead.
Some men but follow their feet,
Some women but follow their nose,
Some children know nothing of prose.

But worry not, lest you get
Worry lines.
Revolution soon come, two-twos now.
Everybody wears it
Inside out.

i to ii

i saw Egypt
but the Pharaoh and i didn't see i to i
because he couldn't see mine.
i sore to look at humans
without wings so
i closed my ii and let the wind
guide me.
i took sticks to the river
to try and turn the tide and
pondered a man's soul.
How many tradesmen traded their for the sake of their trade?
Play the fool to fool the fool, play the villain to fool them all.
But how long does the act remain
an act? i saw Babylon fall
and Poseidon and Odin bicker.
When Magellan traveled East he called the waters peaceful
so they took their arguments there.
As Zeus and Thor rolled around laughing,
even the Sun Ra said “Oh, Me, them man are going in!”
i saw Adam birth Eve and Eve birth wonders
and they wondered
why i spoke of wondrous things
with so little wonder but don't misunderstand,
i wonder but i also understand
and ergo ponder a man's tongue
and his teeth and vocal chords and how much they say but how little they tell
as opposed to their ii.
i saw Macbeth devoured by ambition
and i saw Henry roll heads like dice – snake ii.
i spoke to men's dogs because they were both guardians
and guides, i spoke to men's wives because
they had been their dogs.
An impatient young man blurted at me, “Mate, what's your point?!” I haven't one.
But i've seen enough kingdoms fall to know
that kingship is fleeting
and enough false idols to know
that godliness is next to cleanliness but some stains don't wash.
i've seen excellence jeered and mediocrity cheered,
death coveted and life feared.
i guess i just wish you'd see as much in me as i see in your ii.

'i' to be read as eye
'ii' to be read as eyes
